INTEGRATING GENOMIC MEDICINE INTO FAMILY AND COMMUNITY MEDICINE

INTEGRATING GENOMIC MEDICINE INTO FAMILY AND COMMUNITY MEDICINE
Integrating the AGHI into several UAB family and community medicine clinics began in 2021 , following appropriate COVID-19 safety delays that affected patient care toward the end of the year . Virtual informational sessions and medical education were provided to the clinical teams at each of the three planned clinical enrollment sites , located at UAB Hospital-Highlands near the main UAB campus , UAB Medicine Hoover , and UAB Medicine Selma . Drafts of patient- and physician-facing study materials were provided , in order to receive feedback from physicians and clinical teams . This feedback was used in final revisions to the resources presented in this annual report .
Retraining for our participant navigation team also was completed , to update the team on revised enrollment strategies and workflows required to embed the AGHI study in a clinical setting . This included reviewing the new participant consent form , which informs participants that results will be shared with their medical provider , and the addition of language about returning pharmacogenetic information to participants and their medical providers . Bioethics training also was provided , offering opportunities for dialogue about questions or concerns that participants and their medical providers might have about the study . Safety training on COVID-19 protocols was provided , to help protect our study personnel , participants , and clinical teams .
At the close of 2021 , the first 256 participants had enrolled at the UAB Hospital-Highlands Family and Community Medicine clinic , under the direction of Erin Delaney , MD .
