What We Do

The College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario ( CPSO ) regulates the practice of medicine in Ontario . Doctors are required to be registrants to practise medicine in this province .
The role of CPSO and its authority and powers are set out in the Regulated Health Professions Act ( RHPA ), the Health Professions Procedural Code under the RHPA , and the Medicine Act , 1991 .
Registration
Medical doctors are required to be registrants of CPSO to practise medicine in Ontario . CPSO ’ s Registration department handles all inquiries regarding the registration process .
Guidance
CPSO sets professional expectations for doctors , provides guidance and advice , and identifies best practices .
Quality
Our Quality Improvement and Assurance Programs support doctors in providing high-quality patient care throughout their careers . Our approach to quality improvement is educational and collaborative .
Investigations
A key responsibility of CPSO is to respond to concerns about doctors in Ontario and conduct investigations as required .
