What We Do

The College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario ( CPSO ) regulates the practice of medicine in Ontario . Physicians are required to be members to practise medicine in this province . The role of CPSO and its authority and powers are set out in the Regulated Health Professions Act ( RHPA ), the Health Professions Procedural Code under the RHPA , and the Medicine Act .
REGISTRATION INVESTIGATIONS
Physicians are required to be members of CPSO to practise medicine in Ontario . CPSO ’ s Registration department handles all inquiries regarding the registration process .
QUALITY
A central responsibility of CPSO is to respond to concerns and to investigate complaints about doctors in Ontario .
GUIDANCE
Our Quality Improvement and Assurance tools and teams support physicians in providing high quality patient care throughout their careers . Our approach to quality improvement is educational and collaborative , to benefit both patients and physicians .
CPSO develops policies to provide guidance to physicians about legislative / regulatory requirements and to set expectations for the medical profession .
