Crofton House School 7
“ Serving as chair has been one of the most important – and at times challenging – commitments I have made through my career , and it is one through which I have learned so much .”
to advance girl-centred learning and enrich the CHS workplace . And we have made several improvements in governance to further strengthen Board effectiveness . More fundamentally , we have partnered with the School to navigate a pandemic and with Ena Harrop through her transition to Crofton House School and to Canada – not an easy one given the progression of events around the world in the last few years . While the Board could not have envisaged these complexities when we hired Ena as the ninth head of school in 2019 , we could not have made a better decision .
I am so fortunate to have collaborated with outstanding people in governance at CHS , all of whom volunteer both their time and expertise to help advise , bolster , and champion the School . Serving as chair has been one of the most important – and at times challenging – commitments I have made through my career , and it is one through which I have learned so much . I would also like to express my deep appreciation to all the staff who assure the operations and development of Crofton House . Together , you make the relationship between School and Board one of open exchange , constructive challenge , and shared direction , and CHS is immeasurably stronger as a result .
Underpinned by a spirit of continuous improvement and the power of the Crofton House community , we look forward with optimism and from a position of stability . But in the next five years , ongoing and emergent global issues will continue to test the School and reinforce the importance of our commitments to belonging , agility , and responsibility .
In this context , and as is now a consistent refrain for me , there is no question in my mind that girls ’ education is more important than ever before ; the world needs confident , capable , and compassionate women to help us address some of the most difficult challenges we have faced . Under Ena ’ s guidance , I know the School will continue to play a significant role in inspiring and empowering girls to be part of the solution . And the Board is in exceptional hands under Craig ’ s leadership as a partner in that mission .
Even as I step down as Chair , I know I will always be part of the CHS community . And I know you also will have the joy of lifelong connection . Times like the last few years only serve to reinforce the importance of the incredible community who together assure the ongoing progression of Crofton House School .
Thank you , as always , for your trust .
