SOME OF THE STAKEHOLDERS WE
MET WITH IN 2019:
When Ontario’s health organizations
marshalled its forces in a full out effort to
contain COVID-19, it was a stark reminder of
why system collaboration is so important.
We believe that the relationships built and the
alliances forged in 2019 helped make the College’s
contribution to finding solutions to the challenges
posed by the pandemic possible in 2020.
Developing open and collaborative relationships that
support a connected health system was a priority for
the College in 2019, as we worked regularly with our
various stakeholders on different issues.
Continuity of Care
One of most significant collaborations in 2019 was
our work with the stakeholders in the delivery of our
Continuity of Care policies to the profession. After
we developed the expectations of the four interrelated
policies, following a six-month consultation
with our stakeholders, continued to work closely
with different organizations. For example,
the Ontario Medical Association’s Knowledge
Translation team developed a series of checklists
and implementation resources to help physicians
incorporate policy expectations within their dayto-day
practice. This important work was done in
conjunction with the CPSO to ensure alignment with
the policies’ expectations.
Setting expectations for physicians is an important
aspect of ensuring continuity of care in that it aims
to close some of the cracks in the system, but
system level changes are also needed in order to
complement, support, and enhance the College’s
expectations.
Fortunately, continuity of care is an issue that is
driving a lot of the change we are seeing in our
system and many of our partners in the health-care
system are also working to support a coordinated
and connected health-care system, with technology
playing an important role.
