AWB ANNUAL REPORT 3

AWB IS THE VOICE FOR BUSINESSES IN WASHINGTON

Now more than ever, our state— and our nation— needs conveners. People and organizations capable of uniting diverse groups and finding solutions to our shared challenges.
One year into the process of executing AWB’ s new Strategic Plan, it’ s gratifying to see how Washington employers are doing exactly that.
In 2016, we saw employers continue to unite through the Grassroots Alliance, the partnership between AWB and local chambers of commerce that is flourishing with more than 70 members.
Employers forged new partnerships— with some non-traditional allies— to advocate for policies that protect the environment and create jobs.
They invested in AWB’ s Grow Here employer image campaign, which expanded to television for the first time.
And employers engaged in the effort to resolve long-standing challenges regarding education funding and how best to train and equip the next-generation workforce.
Because of these efforts and many others, AWB was recognized as the Chamber of the Year by the Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives, becoming the first state chamber of commerce to ever receive the distinction.
This was not only a tremendous honor and well-deserved recognition for AWB staff, but also a validation of the course established by you, our members.
We know many challenges lie ahead. But we also know the potential that is realized when leaders gather to generate ideas, innovate and act.
Sincerely, Kris Johnson President, AWB
Wendy Sancewich Board Chair, AWB
