Our parent community
Our Crofton House parents support and nurture our community. Each year, activities and events organized by the CHS Parents’ Auxiliary( PA) are much-anticipated traditions on the school calendar.
A major highlight from 2015 – 2016 was the third annual Whole Girl, Whole World speaker series. Hosted by the PA and the school, this memorable event featured bestselling author Rachel Simmons and her book The Curse of the Good Girl: Raising Authentic Girls with Courage and Confidence. Over several talks, CHS parents, teachers and students heard from the internationally renowned expert about empowering girls by challenging traditional stereotypes and language. Special thanks go to the leadership of CHS PA Chair Georgina MacDonald and speaker series coordinator Katherine Grant for the event’ s great success.
Fall 2015 saw the return of the Crofton House Winter Bazaar on November 21, a longstanding and much-cherished tradition, after a five-year hiatus. ECE girls and parents welcomed more than 3,000 visitors. The event was a fun-filled opportunity for our school community to celebrate our extraordinary CHS spirit, values and connection with one another, and to host our neighbours and members of the local community. All proceeds from the day were donated to CLICK( Contributing to the Lives of Inner City Kids), a local charity identified by the PA that funds programs dedicated to improving the lives of children and youth in our city, including healthy food programs. The highlight of this extraordinary community event was presenting CLICK with a cheque for $ 35,000, the largest single donation the charity has ever received.
Building an engaged school is possible because of the strong partnership between the School and the CHS Parents’ Auxiliary. It is also the result of the support and dedication of parent volunteers. Their contributions not only benefit our school but also demonstrate, by example to their daughters, how citizenship builds community.
