Dr. Eric Letovsky and Dr. Deborah Schachter, assessors, have both been active in the College’s Peer Redesign. Dr. Letovsky on behalf
of his discipline of emergency medicine and Dr. Schachter on behalf of her discipline of psychiatry.
Assessments directed by the Quality Assurance Committee (QAC) are known as “peer assessments”,
which are generally comprised of an onsite records review and an interview with feedback to the physician by a peer.
The number of peer assessments is governed by resources (such as assessor availability) and the direction of Council (i.e., that physicians under age 70 are assessed once every 10 years; that physicians age
70 and over are assessed every five years).

This year, of those physicians randomly selected for assessment, 88% were found to have good quality records, 8% had
minor record-keeping and quality of care concerns which necessitated a re-assessment and 4% presented concerns or
unanswered questions about the quality of care to warrant an interview with the Quality Assurance Committee.
