This important project is an example of how we are fostering a culture of data-driven and evidence-informed decision making at the
College, said Mr. Hillier.
Pathways Project
Ensuring that our registration pathways and policies are
meeting their intended purpose
In the fall of 2013, the Pathways Project was launched. This initiative, which extends to 2016, is an evaluation of College registration
policies and pathways. Specifically, we have set out to determine
what, if any, differences exist in the performance of physicians who
achieve Ontario registration after receiving non-Canadian training
and those who achieve Ontario registration after receiving Canadian training.
The objectives of the project are to:
nsure that alternative pathways and policies are meeting
E
their intended purpose;
Gain insight into the ways in which alternative routes to
registration process changes may be useful; and
Better understand the educational needs of different physician subgroups to enable the development of appropriate
quality improvement activities.
Physicians registered through alternative pathways and policies are
matched to physicians who have been registered through traditional
routes to registration. Matching is based on gender, medical specialty, practice experience and practice location. Approximately 2,000
physicians are included in the evaluation.
In order to investigate potential performance differences in practice, the following data sources are included in the analysis, resulting
in a comprehensive picture of practice:
