Annual Report 2013 | Page 8

A research paper from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in 2013 found that 16 percent of new specialist and subspecialist physicians said they cannot find work; with 31% having to pursue further training to become more employable. The solution in striking the right balance between supply and demand lies in the development of a national health human resources planning body; one that considers the availability of practice resources as well as the health needs of the population. For that reason, we will continue to collaborate with our provincial and national partners in government, medical education and training, and specialty certification to ensure a system-wide approach to physician registration. We encourage members of the public to visit the College’s website, where information can be accessed about each physician licensed in Ontario.
