Dr. Bill Dunlop,
Inquiries, Complaints and Reports Committee
Discipline Committee
The safety of patients is paramount. When a College investigation finds information that appears to have shown a physician
demonstrated a deliberate disregard for patient welfare, engaged
in reprehensible behaviour, or demonstrated extreme substandard
care that does appear capable of remediation, then that physician
will be referred to the Discipline Committee.
Discipline Committee panels – which are made up of doctors
and public members – make decisions based on the law and the
evidence presented by the College’s prosecutor and the physician’s
legal counsel.
The Discipline Committee completed 37 hearings in 2013. Of
these hearings, 11 (30%) had findings of disgraceful, dishonourable or unprofessional conduct, 10 (27%) had findings of failing
to maintain standards of practice, six (16%) involved allegations of
sexual abuse (one case was not proved), four (11%) had findings of
found guilty of an offence relevant to suitability to practise, three
(8%) had findings of incompetence, two (5%) had uncontested
motions to vary, and one (3%) contested application for reinstatement, which was dismissed.
