Dear Bishop McNamara Families and Friends, Serving as the Chair of the Board of Directors at Bishop McNamara High School these past few years has been both inspiring and humbling for me. As a graduate of the school, I am inspired to see that the mission, ministry, and commitment to excellence that has defined Bishop McNamara High School and Holy Cross education is alive and well today. I marvel at the dedication, passion, and commitment of our faculty, staff, and administration and am edified by their love for our students and the families we all serve. I am particularly touched by the generosity and stewardship of my fellow members of the Board of Directors and all those who contribute to making Bishop McNamara the special place it is today. For donating their time, talent, and treasure to our school, I’m proud to thank my fellow board members from this past year: Mr. Charles (“Rod”) Marvin, Jr (Vice-Chair), Mrs. Toni Lewis-Bennett LR ‘88 (Secretary), Mr. Michael Mattera ‘67 (Treasurer), Mr. Paul Agustin ‘99, Ms. Nicki Athey LR ‘92, Mr. Daniel E. Curtin, Fr. William Foley, Mrs. Anne Gillis, Dr. Marilyn Goldsmith, Fr. Kevin Kennedy, Mr. Andrew Merkle ‘94, Mr. Adel Musa, Mr. James O’Brien ‘88, Mr. Robert Sensenig, Bro. Michael Smith, CSC, and Mr. Ernest (“Marty”) Spain ‘95. It is through their vision that we have grown and prospered in this past year. When I walk the halls at Bishop McNamara and talk to the people, I am so proud as an alumnus that our school is thriving the way that it is. What I am most proud of is that as a Catholic institution in the Holy Cross tradition, we are meeting our goal to provide a place for robust conversations about the things that matter most in life. When Blessed Father Basil Moreau founded the Congregation of Holy Cross, his educational philosophy centered on instilling in students the competence to see and the courage to act. The programs at Bishop McNamara are anchored by the moral imperative that compels us to live peacefully in a global community, and our students are encouraged to grow spiritually, challenge injustice, and promote peace. Often I hear our President/CEO, Marco J. Clark ‘85, talk about Bishop McNamara as a place “where opportunities abound.” Each year, with 99 — 100 percent of our graduates going on to attend some of the finest institutions of higher learning in the world, I think to myself how this world will certainly be a better place because of the people that this school produces. We pride ourselves on educating our students, helping them to discover all that they can be and leading them to become the people that God wants them to be. But of course, none of this is possible without you. As you thumb through the pages of this 2012-2013 Annual Report, know that every name that appears here is one that represents love, care, and commitment to the students, faculty, staff, and families at Bishop McNamara. Whether you’ve given of your wealth, wisdom, or words, you help to transform the lives of the young people we serve and in so doing transform the future. Thank you again and know that I am both inspired and humbled by your willingness to make a difference. Best regards, Robert J.
