ScotlandAs1 - MakeItHappen
Finally, we ended the year where we
started – with GB selections: Grant
Mackay, Hilary Wood, Claire Paxton,
Rose Anderson, Kieron Achara, Alasdair Fraser and Gareth Murray have
all represented Great Britain this summer. Congratulations to all these athletes. We now have to continue to
grow the number of Scots competing
at World and European levels.
We have also faced a number of challenges this year, with the two main
ones being the establishment of a
University-based Performance Programme, and coach recruitment. We
started the University Performance
Programme on the wrong foot by not
getting clubs involved early enough in
the process. In terms of coach recruitment, our Senior Women’s National Squad recruitment was equally
challenging. Our approach is to accept responsibility for these challenges, ensure we learn the lessons
and move forward positively towards
improving the game in Scotland.
There are a number of exciting opportunities on the horizon. Firstly, towards the end of the year we secured
investment for additional Regional
Staff resource, which will be focussed
on working with targeted clubs to
assist their growth. We were also
encouraged by the number of clubs
who have real ambition to grow their
capacity and performance and we
look forward to providing more support for those clubs.
Secondly, over the next year, we will
have the opportunity to develop our
performance plans towards the 2018
Commonwealth Games and to seek
additional investment in this area.
2018 provides an exciting opportunity
to have Scotland’s best athletes compete on the world stage. Our job now
is to grasp that opportunity and
“Make It Happen”!
