basketballscotland Annual Report EDUCATION AND DEVELOPMENT Coaching Education and Development Apprenticeship Programme The Coach Apprenticeship Programme continued to invest in the development of a group of coaches. These coaches have gained much experience from this valued programme. One coach said of their experience so far: “One of the best elements is probably the number of opportunities we're given to attend so many different things like clinics/workshops/observations etc., which always cover a really wide range of topics. They allow you to hear ideas and learn from really experienced coaches which definitely contributed hugely in enabling me to develop as a coach. Another great element of the programme that really helped me develop as a coach was having a mentor who I can directly speak to if I have any questions or am unsure of anything etc. - having that support has been really helpful in a number of ways” Youth Leadership Programme Glasgow Lady Rocks continued to develop the Youth Leadership Programme throughout 12/13. The girls have been mentored by Lisa Palombo and Erin Gilbride. They have undertaken a range of coaching projects in their locality such as Gladiator Rocks Community Programme, Primary Schools and After School Care Programmes. Many of the Young Leaders have said that the most rewarding part of working in this Programme is when they see the young players making progress and enjoying themselves in basketball . This year is again going to improve our young leaders further and as they draw to the end of this project they will hopefully be far better equipped to develop club and community basketball for the foreseeable future. It is programmes like these which continue to inspire, educate and develop the next generation of coaches in Scotland. St Maurices’ Young Leaders Programme 31 Dave Evans at the FECC Registration.
