School Program
In its more than 40 year history the Carlos Rosario
International Public Charter School has gone from
a small grassroots English as a Second Language
program to a comprehensive adult education
program recognized nationally and internationally
as a successful model for transforming immigrant
individuals, families, and communities. Over the past
four decades this culturally vibrant school has served
more than 60,000 students.
A highly qualified, diverse, and dedicated team of
faculty and staff offer award-winning adult education
programs including English as a Second Language, GED,
ESL for Families, Citizenship, Technology Essentials
and Workforce Development as well as comprehensive
support services to more than 2,900 students annually.
Thanks to the School’s programs tens of thousands of
adults have obtained high school diplomas; become
U.S. citizens; gained the English skills necessary to
advocate for their children; obtained college degrees
and workforce certifications; paid millions of dollars
worth of taxes; and entered into careers and climbed
career ladders.
The School was chartered by the DC Public Charter
School Board in 1998 and earned accreditation in
2005 through the Middle States Association of
Colleges and Schools. In April of 2012 the Middle
States Association voted to fully re-accredit the school.
The school year began August 29, 2011 and ended
June 14, 2012. There were two instructional semesters
of approximately 19 weeks each. According to the
District of Columbia School Reform Act, adult students
who receive 12 hours of instruction per week are
considered full-time. Because students have parenting
and work demands, the school offers a variety of class
schedules.
