Seen internationally as a unique, holistic model for adult education
programs and for student support services, Carlos Rosario has
received considerable acclaim. Recognizing it as a national model,
for example, the United States Department of Education, Office
of Adult and Vocational Education, named the school as a finalist
of the Secretary’s Award for Outstanding Adult Basic Education
Programs. In 2006, Carlos Rosario also received an award from
the DC mayor as one of the 10 best charter schools in the city.
The 2007-2008 school year was a groundbreaking year for the
Carlos Rosario School. Successes included organizational goals
that were met and surpassed and the achievements of individual
faculty, staff and students. Below are a few highlights of the
2007-2008 school year:
• The Carlos Rosario Culinary Arts Program was chosen as an
exemplary program by the DC Department of Health.
• In March, Carlos Rosario’s Student Resource Room had its
grand opening.
• A record number of students, 1,381, were served on a daily basis.

entered in the 12th Annual district-wide Women’s History Month
Essay Contest. Two Carlos Rosario students were finalists in the
competition.
