Student Supportive Services
The key mission-related services offered by the Supportive Services Department include individual
counseling, immigration counseling, job counseling and placement, job readiness workshops, financial
aid assistance, life skills workshops, vocational counseling, volunteer services/recruitment, childcare and
health referrals, extracurricular activities, student government, and fundraising for scholarships. It should
be noted, too, that the Supportive Services Department provides its services in four major languages:
English, Spanish, Amharic and Vietnamese. Through these services, the Department provides
development opportunities to the student body and serves as a bridge to student success within the
larger DC community. CHART 1 and CHART 2 below provide information about services offered during
the 2007-2008 academic year, with a “unit of service” being defined as a 15-minute block of time in
which a staff member provides a service to a student. In total, 32,149 units of services were provided.
