Another amazing school year at Phalen Leadership Academies (PLA) has come and gone, but the 2021-22 school year will truly be one to remember.
From the launch of our PLA University Fort Worth and Virtual programs to the graduation of our very first class of seniors at James and Rosemary Phalen Leadership Academy, the PLA network has continued to be a transformative leader in education serving not only our scholars, but also the families and community members that lift them up.
With the return to in-person learning, our teachers and staff were finally reunited with their beloved scholars. We also saw the return of in-person family engagement events like the Greater Heights Academy Family Celebration Ball and the Smith Middle School Mother Daughter Tea Party.
I could not be more proud of the performance of our school leaders this year. Principal Marisa Simmons of Thea Bowman Leadership Academy was nominated for the Indiana Association of School Principals District 1 Principal of the Year Award. One of our newest PLA partner schools, Davis Elementary, was featured in Charter Connect Magazine for its excellent school culture, thanks in large part to the leadership of Principal Ericka Anderson.
Going into the new school year, we are excited to welcome four new schools to our network: Promise Prep, Bellingrath Middle School, Nixon Elementary School, and Jalen Rose Leadership Academy. We are also in the process of expanding the Sean Cowdrey Health and Wellness Complex in Indianapolis to include a 17,585 square foot gymnasium we’ve named ‘The Falcons’ Nest’.
We look forward to creating strong and collaborative academic programming for our scholars, expanding wrap-around services for our families and community members, and continuing on the path to becoming one of the most multifaceted and transformative school networks in the nation.
At PLA, we will always put children first. We know that in order to build a strong foundation at our schools we must establish trust and respect with our school districts, school boards, charter authorizers, families and communities.
