They Left In Twelve
By Mina Lauv
They came in twelve and they left in twelve.
All of those who perished on January 7, 2015.
They arose in the morning and closed their eyes soon after for that eternal slumber.
What is that eternal slumber?
Where the soul is separated from the body, where the conscious is no longer conscious.
Descartes would say, “They do not think therefore they are not.”
If only we can conquer consciousnous! We can live forever!
If we can understand what makes us conscious we can bring them back.
Bring them back to life.
That is what is fair.
Where did their souls go?
Did it evaporate into thin air?
Did it shrivel up inside of them?
Did it just shut down?
Why can’t we take their souls and shove it back into them?
Bring them back to life.
We must find their souls and bring it back to them.
Then they will wake up.
Aristotle would say, “Leave them. They died what they loved doing. They are happy.”
The Sony hack was a cowardly attack
As Americans we must fight back
We express our views and deal with the flak
People have died for our right to talk smack
We are proud of you monsieur Hebdo, Charlie
Sadly, you paid the ultimate price for speaking freely
SPEAKING FREELY
