I read the Facebook post ,” When will women realize they don’t look good in high-waisted shorts?” I had a pair of bright blue, pleated, high-waisted shorts that made me feel like a pin-up. Ten minutes ago I felt like a rockabilly queen, but now I saw my stomach pooch, and my non-optimal waist to hip ratio, and my overly-flat (but wide) butt. These shorts had none of the tricks that hid my flaws and made my body palatable. But I loved them. Something shifted and I said, “screw it.” Screw editing my style to follow a book of rules I didn’t write. Now, I’m learning to write my own rules. Number one- If it makes me happy I’m going to wear it. Things that make me happy-a bright red lip, a sack dress, wearing a push-up bra, wearing no bra, and wearing high-waisted shorts.
