Currently Disclosable Information
First created by the first-class weapons craftsman, Angel Altonen, the 3D Maneuver Gear was innovative and the greatest
creation used in the war to save mankind.
THREE DIMENSIONAL MANEUVER GEAR
In
side the body of the device is a long steel wire and a pair of independently revolving
axles. The only functioning part of the operating device is a black box which is
maintained and upgraded by the technical department in complete secrecy. The
main way to get around using a 3D Maneuver Gear is by using the gas, which is compressed
into the cylinder and injected into the fan section of the gear, to propel yourself forward in
small bursts so as to not waste the gas. The fans in the fan section get rotated by the gas
being sent into it, where it then has the amount of gas released regulated to manipulate
the output.
CANNONS
Before the 3D Maneuver Gear was created, cannons were the main means of
defense against the Titans. Used mostly by the Stationary Guard, these cannons fire
two kinds of rounds: pomegrenades and grapeshots. Pomegrenades are explosive
rounds with the power to destroy a titan’s head entirely and are often used to try
and destroy the nape of its neck. Grapeshots are simply used to slow down titans
and are the traditional shots. When the first wall was breached, the walls got fitted
with rails which the cannons were fitted on to. The cannons have the ability to fire
directly down so as to hit the titans without risking getting hit themselves.
FIREARMS
Not being very effective at destroying titans, the technology for firearms was left
alone once the 3D Maneuver Gear was developed. This isn’t to say that firearms
aren’t used at all, as they are still used by the Military Police and other security
relations that deal with human-to-human relations. The only weapons that are
currently shown in the anime are rifles (muskets) and pistols. The only effect that
firearms seem to have against the titans is that they can shoot out their eyes,
causing temporary blindness. The Scouting Legion and Stationary Guard often use
flareguns to communicate over long distances. They use a certain code which differs
from group to group.
The Scouting Legion uses a code that comprises of:
The Stationary Guard uses a different ammo code:
Red = Titan spotted.
Green = Mission started.
Black = Deviant-type titan spotted.
Red = Mission failed.
Purple = An emergency of some kind.
Yellow = Mission successful.
Blue = An order to retreat.
Green = Change direction of formation
Yellow = The mission is over, successful or failed.
