If testing the limits of your stomach just isn’t your cup of tea, maybe you would prefer a different activity: Cosplay checkers! The only difference between original and Cosplay-style checkers would be that in cosplay checkers, the checker pieces would be cosplayers whom were standing on a life-sized checkerboard whom were controlled by a player for each side. The best part of Day 2 would probably be the cosplay workshop held by the famous Japanese cosplayer Reika Arikawa. During the workshop, Reika cosplayed as Levi Rivaille from the current hit anime series Attack on Titan also known as Shingeki no Kyojin. Bubbly and sweet as candy throughout the entire workshop, Reika taught the audience about things every cosplayer should know such as prop making and wig styling. Good things don’t come for free though, as the visitors had to pay extra if they wanted to attend the workshop. After that, a separate workshop for Gundam cosplay enthusiasts was held by Clive Lee to give people tips on how to create realistic looking Gundam robot costumes to transform yourself from human to Gundam. (Batteries not included) As events and conventions such as this are usually jam-packed with cosplayers, it is very likely that you will come across someone cosplaying as your favourite anime or manga character. It is normal to feel excited and sometimes even squeal because you want to take a photo of them or even with them. However, make sure that you ask before you snap. Beneath the makeup and the impressive costumes, cosplayers are humans too! Thus, as long as you ask politely before you whip out that camera phone, I’m sure they will gladly strike a cool pose with you for the picture. Maybe that good-looking Ichigo Kurosaki cosplayer will even let you hold his sword as you both shout: “Bankai!” instead of “Cheese!” into the camera. Cheers and I hope you get the chance to attend an anime event soon. Photographers: Umi Himitsu, Vege Keong (©2013) Anime Reign | Issue 2 | 2013 Page 51
