This clip shows the Zoopraxiscope.
His photography encouraged many people all over the world, including the Lumière brothers( the inventors of the first movie projector in 1894 and in particular Thomas Edison who was inspired to create the first projector, turning the use of high speed shutters in cameras into movie making technology.
was born in Ohio in 1847 and is renowned for countless inventions and most importantly turning an idea into a commercial success. Whilst he didn’ t invent the lightbulb he did produce the first commercially viable one. He first started incandescent research on it in 1878 and by 1879 Edison had successfully tested a filament that burned for 13.5 hours, and thus in November 1879 he filed for a U. S patent for electric lamp.
Using his research into light he started to focus on the projection of light and its uses. The Kinetoscope is one of the first motion picture devices but was never designed to project movies outwards. It was created for films to be looked at separately through a window of a cabinet inclosing its components. The Kinetoscope set the standards for all the cinematic projection before film was invented. It was a very basic device and watching pictures through this invention gives the viewer the illusion of movement. It does this by passing images captured on a strip of film over a light source with high speed shutter speed.
The only bad things about this invention were that only one person could view the Kinetoscope at one time and that the illusion only lasted 5-10 seconds. As the box was 4-foot-long and there was only a small hole in the top for when people wanted to view the pictures – the lighting wasn’ t that good to look at.
