under fire as he ran from one location to the other. Mike was fortunate that he was never wounded, although he was gassed, which left him nervous and with his vision slightly impaired. 

When the forces were demobilized, Captain R.R. Slater brought Mike (by airplane) back to England, where he lived the rest of his life—to a ripe old age of sixteen. Mike never forgot what it was like being in war and for the rest of his life would crouch or hide whenever he heard a loud bang; otherwise he was a happy dog.
