Tweed, a bobtailed sheepdog, earned fame for his work in France. Reports show that Tweed was at first considered a “dunce” at the war-dog school. Major Richardson's wife took an interest in the dog and discovered that his problem was shyness. She worked with him, and he went on to become one of the most reliable messenger dogs in the British army.
