VBS Request
Anglers in the east of England are being invited to
join the Angling Trust’s successful Voluntary Bailiff
Service (VBS) this spring.
Volunteers act as the “eyes and ears” on riverbanks
and lakesides, and support the police and
Environment Agency (EA) in helping to tackle
fisheries crime and protect fish and fisheries.
Run in partnership with the EA and funded through
fishing licence money, the VBS began as a pilot
scheme in the south-east six years ago, before being
rolled out to the rest of the country in 2016.
Recruitment in the east of England will be the only
opportunity this year to join VBS and successful
applicants will receive training to help them report
incidents and information to the appropriate agency
and to a high evidential standard – increasing the
chances of successful prosecutions.
Anyone interested in joining the VBS in the eastern
region should email Karen Sarkar or click here for
more information.
Salmon Sessions
We’ve teamed up with Atlantic Salmon Trust and
FishPal to produce a series of three
10-minute advisory films called “The Gift” to promote
best practice when fishing for salmon.
The advice, which is all based on scientific evidence,
is aimed to minimise the damage to released fish
from angling. At under 12 minutes each, they can
form a handy tool as part of your next coach-led
salmon fishing session.
