fight that hard . Martin previously caught similar size female Carp during previous droughts at Buffelspoort dam , Klaserie dam and Doorndraai dam . But they were not as strong .
Duncan had a particular successful session and improved his personal best ( PB ) a few times . He caught a 55 pounder in that first week . After six weeks he caught the same fish at 58 pounds . Ricky Van Onselen was present during the second time . The scale was giving trouble – it remained stuck at about 10 pounds after the fish was weighed . They used Q20 to fix the scale and again weighed the carp to confirm the 58 pounds . This happened three times during the Duncan is going to surpass his old man ’ s PB when one of Martin ’ s rods took of one a session . The fish thus produced 3kg eggs in 6 weeks . The guys were still mocking Martin that screeching run . The Carp weighed in just over 60 pounds . A few days before the end of the session , Duncan caught a 61 pounder - his current PB . Not bad for a 21 year old youngster .
said it was the biggest fish they had caught . They could not lift the fish into the boat . It was the fourth 60 pounder plus of the session .
It started raining heavily and the water level rose up and over the grass . That evening Martin and Duncan heard loud noises . The next day they went to have a look at the inflow to the dam and confirmed that the Carp were spawning . They knew it was time to pack up , but had to wait for the sun to come out and dry out their tents .
