BRINGING INTO FOCUS FILIPINO PRESENCE IN AUSTRALIA www.kalatas.com.au | Volume 5 Number 12 | SEPTEMBER 2015 COMMUNITY Blacktown Meals on Wheels Special day opened for Pinoys THE Blacktown Meals on Wheels has opened a Filipino Centre Based day for the Filipino Community every fourth Wednesday of the month in a programme to reach out to Pinoys in the Sydney west area. THE Blacktown Meals on Wheels delivers meals to clients and provide fun sessions including Bingo games, Dominos and raffles. There are currently ten to twelve Filipino clients who come along to the centre based day. “We supply a lovely morning tea for the clients and a 3 nutritious 3 course meal, cooked on the premises by our cook, is provided at lunch time for a cost of $6.00 currently,” said Joy Woodleigh, client service officer for Blacktown Meals on Wheels. “The clients play Dominos and other games are available. We play 10 games of Bingo with prizes for each game. We hold a Raffle with 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes and a lucky door prize is drawn. The clients all have a lovely day and interact socially with others from the Philippine Community.” Clients living in Black- town and surrounding districts can be transported to and from the Centre by volunteers in Mini Buses at a cost of $2 each way (currently). Dedicated volunteers assist with the preparation and serving of the meals, call Bingo, organise the raffles, other activities and help the client enjoy their day. The next Filipino Centre Based days coming up will be held on Wednesday, 23rd September; 28th October; 25th November from 10am to 2pm. Blacktown Meals on
