Hazel and the boys were the only Fil-Aussies who participated in the competition which gathered a field of 345 competitors. Hazel left her job of IT product development manager five years ago to look after her two sons. She decid- ed to take up karate after seeing its physical and mental impact on the development of her sons. “Through karate, I have gained a better balance, both physically and mentally in my everyday life. It has become an outlet of stress, a break from the usual routine and challenges of being a stay home mum,” Hazel said. “Karate makes me a better parent by modelling to my children the attributes of respect, self-discipline, focus, perseverance, humility, courage and an indomitable spirit.” THE MESSAGE.
