Garcia reelected as FILCCA president
AIDA Garcia was returned as president of FILCCA (Filipino Communities Council of Australia) in
a show of solidarity at the peak body’s annual general meeting in Parramatta on October 25.

SPEAKING at the gala dinner
on the 26th, Ms Garcia, a solicitor from Victoria, vowed
to continue pulling the Filipino communities across Australia together and working to
help rebuild typhoon-stricken
areas in the Philippines.
She said Filcca would
continue advocating for the
newly arrived migrant Filipinos: “Kung magsama-sama
tayo, mag tulong-tulong tayo,
siguradong mas marami pa
tayong magagawa,” Ms Garcia said.
She pleaded with Filipino-Australians to drop crab
mentality and “iyun ningas
kugon’’ habit. The president

pointed to the need to encourage youth leaders with proper
guidance and mentoring them
to become leaders.
They must want to be a
part of Filcca and not because
we asked them to join us, she
said: “We are now here in Aus-
tralia; let us work together facing the future of the next generation.”
Elected 2015 Filcca board
of directors were: Ms Garcia,
president; Perlita Swinbank,
vice president and external affairs officer; Cecille Wear, in-
ternal affairs officer; Cholly Winter, secretary; Serna
Ladia, treasurer; Dante Maribay, public relations officer; and
Bobby Lastica, youth officer.
The three-day Filcca conference took place at the Novotel Parramatta last month
concluding with the gala dinner attended by Philippine
Consul-General Anne Jalando-on Louis, NSW Premier
Michael Baird, Mayor of Parramatta Scott Lloyd, and Federal MP for Greenway Michelle Rowland.
