[photo by Nards Purisima] New role for Bobby APCO supports Voice coach health campaign in kids’ awards ROBERTO Lastica, current VP Internal, of the Philippine Community Council-NSW, has been appointed to serve at the Multicultural Consultative Council that will advise the NSW Anti-Discrimination Board on community issues affecting policies addressing respect and harmony in mainstream communities. Mr. Lastica is an active leader in the Pinoy community circles and as well in the multicultural stream. He was inducted recently to officially take on the post. The MCC was recently formed by Stepan Keryasharian AO President of the NSW AntiDiscrimination Board. “More work is needed to address discriminatory behaviours in most parts of the society even within community organisations. Racial vilification and improper language ascribing to ethnic groups are top issues shared.” THE Alliance of Philippine Community Organisations Inc embarks on a programme to support organ and tissue donation. A Memorandum of Agreement was signed recently between the APCO and the NSW Multicultural Health Communication Service (MHCS) and the Organ and Tissue Donation Service (OTDS). As part of the Organ and Tissue Donation Multicultural Campaign, APCO will target the Filipino community leaders and members and the media by running information sessions. After the talks and video presentations, an Expression of Interest to potential voluntary donors will be distributed to be filled out and submitted. Ms Jesusa Helaratne, Media Manager of NSW Multicultural Health and Communication Service asked Ruben Amores, APCO President to identify a bilingual trainer from APCO to undertake training on how to effectively deliver this campaign. (RICHARD FORD) ANG KALATAS NOTED voice coach Tina Bangel has been named one of finalists in a national children’s award scheme, the prestigious ‘What’s On 4 2015’ Junior Awards. The awards programme is done in association with ABC Reading Eggs. The top winner is expected to be announced this month. Tina is the founder of One Voice School of Singing from Kellyville Ridge. She is a finalist in the Most Outstanding Activity Leader 5-12 years categogory. Tina conducts private and group singing lessons. Many of her students have had amazing opportunities to be support acts to international stars. “It’s an honour to be recognised for this award. It inspires me to work harder so can give my students more opportunities to become more confident individuals,” said Tina. JUNE 2015 13
