It's a day of fun for all, with the highlight for families being the Summer Playground in Hyde Park. Much of the action takes place on and around Sydney Harbour. WugulOra marks the start of Australia Day celebrations with the raising of the Aboriginal and Australian flags on the Sydney Harbour Bridge from 7:30am. Pack a picnic and your sunblock and head to the a spot by the harbour to enjoy all the action. In the evening, Darling Harbour becomes the site of more Australia Day activities. Enjoy family fun on Australia Day at the Sydney Opera House Forecourt, with two free Australia Day concerts featuring performances by The Wiggles and friends, Jessica Mauboy, Justice Crew, Sheppard and Russell Morris! The Lord Mayor of Parramatta Cr Scott Lloyd said Parramatta offers one of the largest Australia Day celebrations and is the perfect place to commemorate our nation’s day. “Parramatta’s Australia Day party will kick-off at sunrise when our spectacular hot air balloons ascend to the sky as part of the Aerial Carnivale between 6am-11am,” Cr Lloyd said. “Celebrations will continue from 11am-6pm at the Big Backyard where there will be an array of amusement rides, food stalls and activities to keep the kids busy, plus a live entertainment program featuring MCs Ozstar Airlines, Erth’s Dinosaur Zoo and special guest Dorothy the Dinosaur. “Then from 6pm to 9pm The Wiggles!, Sarah De Bono and Tim Omaji aka Timomatic will entertain the crowd as the sun sets at our free Dig 1100 Concert followed by National Roads and Motorists’ Association (NRMA) Fireworks Spectacular. Highlights of the day include the Aerial Carnivale where the skies will fill with colour as a host of giant hot air balloons ascend above the park at 6am.
