WART is a
small rough
growth that looks like a cauliflower or solid blister. Warts are caused
by some types of the virus
called papillomavirus (HPV)
which infects the top layer of
the skin, entering the body in
an area of broken skin. Most
warts are easily recognised.
SYMPTOMS OF WARTS:

l Small, raised bump appears on the skin
l The wart may have a
rough or smooth surface
l Warts can appear singly
or in clusters

TYPES OF WARTS:

l Common warts (Verruca vulgaris) – hard,
raised lumps with rough
surface affecting any
body part but mostly the
knees and hands
l Flat wart (Verruca plana) – small, smooth flattened wart, flesh-co-

loured, which can occur
in large numbers commonly on the face, neck,
hands, wrists and knees
l Filiform or Digitate
wart – a thread or finger
like wart, most common on the face, especially near the eyelids
and lips
l Genital wart (Venereal wart) – a wart that appears on the genitalia
l Mosaic wart – a group
