Ateneo Alumni brings Broadway to town
SOME of the best Broadway musical numbers will fill the room when ‘An Enchanted Evening’ comes
to Burwood RSL Club on August 9. The show is a major fund-raising concert of the Ateneo Alumni
Association Australia (AAAA) for its scholarship grants to underprivileged youth towards the Ateneo
education system.
Producer and immediate past president Arlene Amor said the
two-hour program will showcase songs from some of the choicest
Broadway musicals including Les Miserables, Phantom Of The Opera, Sound Of Music, Wicked, and Rent.
Mrs Amor said the fund-raiser was inspired by the words of poet and author E. McCaan: “The kind of world we live in tomorrow
depends not partially but entirely upon the type and quality of our
children’s education today. Our children are our future.”
Current president Elaine Aviola said that the AAAA was committed to working towards achieving a shared vision, that of making
a difference through education.
“Our first scholar graduated from high school recently and is
now enrolled at university,” Ms Aviola said. “A second scholar is
now in high school. Our commitment is to shoulder the expenses
for these students’ school fees until they complete their university
education.
The AAAA will supplement the show with a souvenir program,
and is now inviting sponsors to lend further support through advertising. For details, contact: Tiffi Avila on 0405 033 791 or Arlene
Amor on 0410 667 359.
