THE MESSAGE. BRINGING INTO FOCUS FILIPINO PRESENCE IN AUSTRALIA www.kalatas.com.au | Volume 5 Number 7 | APRIL 2015 ENTERTAINMENT 13 The REO Brothers performing a Beatles classic before an SRO crowd at their recent concert in Burwood RSL. Rock & Roll Day with the REO Brothers Fans were treated to an afternoon of great rock & roll and the music of the 60s at the performance of the REO Brothers of Tacloban in the TY OZ concert last month at the Burwood RSL. Dubbed the ‘Pinoy Beatles’ because of their almost flawless rendition of Beatles hits, the REO Brothers gave a full-house show that rocked the audiences. Organised by the Filipino Community Cooperative Limited with the support of Cebu Pacific, the show – ‘T.Y. Oz’ – was a special thanksgiving and charity concert for the HelpAfter-Haiyan and community projects. The REO Brothers is a boy band that emerged out of the destruction in Tacloban when the city was hit by the Haiyan super-typhoon in late 2013. There is no other Philippine band who has captured the admiration of the music world just a year after breaking into Manila’s music scene. The REO Brothers are Reno 24, RJ 22, Raymart 20 and Ralph 18 years old who come from the poor, large Otic family in Tacloban. The REO Brothers hold the distinct honor of holding the first-ever performance of a Philippine Beatle tribute band at the famed Cavern Club in Liverpool, England in August last year and came back at the invitation of Cavern management for a repeat concert on October before an SRO crowd. Below: Members of the Alpha Phi Omega Australia held a fellowship at the Rooty Hill RSL with the REO Brothers and their manager band adviser, Tom Banguis, who is also an APO member.
