last year. Dami worked as a gospel
singer in Seoul and taught piano and

weeks making her a favourite for the

FROM PERTH WITH LOVE
Filipino Achievers in Perth
“ABILITY may get you to the top, but it takes character to keep you
there.” - John Wooden
F
ilipinos have always
proven their resilience and talents in the
most trying circumstances and wherever
they are in every part of the world.
Pinoys continue to inspire not
only fellow ‘Kababayans’ but even
other nationals who become new
friends and co-workers.
Here in Perth WA is no exemption.
One such achiever is Ms. Dee
Carpio of Pro Hair & Beauty in
Mirrabooka.
Dee has been in the Make-up
and Hairstyling industry for 20yrs,
and started picking up the tricks of
the trade from her teenage years.
“My inspiration comes from
my pride of work, which I always
take to best of my ability, and help
make people happy ...the reward
of seeing satisfactions from my
clients inspires and motivates me
more and more each day,” she says
when asked what motivates her in
this line of work.
True enough, her thriving business that has been operating for
many years now in the busy Ballajura Central is positive proof of her
go-getter attitude, and has made
her in high demand for community events, shows and other functions.
Another Pinay achiever worth
her arabesques is Para Isidro of
Para Dance Studio.
This lithesome beauty is trailblazing dancing not only within the Filipino community here
in Perth, but also with the mainstream Australian public.
Fresh from her sold out successful Dance concert at the Majesty Theatre in Perth CBD to a sellout crowd, she recently did a follow up fundraising tribute for her
departed brother at Kings Street
Theatre.
Currently ‘ball changing’ her
way in between her Jazz, FLOW
classes and Teachings, she still
finds time to engage in Isagenix
team building sessions, as well as
participate in Helen Shaw Designs
& Event’s Quarterly Shows such
as the coming 007 Bond’s NightRocknRoll at Morley Sports and
Recreation Centre.
They are just but a small sampling of the many inspiring Filipinos in Western Australia, and I will
write about some of the inspiring
Pinoys in WA next time.
