Bringing into focus Filipino presence in Australia High alumna award for Julie Nine officers and members of the Alliance of Philippine Community Organisations, Inc. (APCO) successfully completed a ‘Managing a Community Organisation’ capacity building training held last December. llThis accredited training was delivered by instructors from TAFE and subsidised by Auburn City Council. APCO through its founding president Dr Cen Amores and Auburn Small Communities Network (ASCON) founding president, Ruben Amores lobbied for the provision of a relevant training to communitybased organisations operating in the Auburn LGA. In response, the Auburn City Council, through its projects officer, Adama Kamara included ‘Managing a Community Organisation’ in the Auburn Council’s Training and Capacity Building Calendar last year. The training provided an opportunity for community leaders to discuss challenges they face in their various community organisations. Most of the successful attendees representing CALD communities came from APCO. They include: Daisy and Ted Cumming, Richard Ford, Pet and Ron Storey, Marx and Rose Canoy, Leticia Lomo and Barth Dichoso and Dr Cen Amores.
