Everyone is invited to stunning lantern garden and be amazed as the Church Street Mall comes alive with exciting entertainment. Visitors to Parramatta on that day will see the traditional dragon and lion dance, music and dance performances, kung fu demonstrations and meet the God of Wealth who brings luck in the New Year. LEARN about Asian cultures with children’s interactive workshops, including lantern making, traditional Chinese knotting and paper folding, henna tattoos and up-cycled craft workshops celebrating the Year of the Horse. TASTE a variety of Asian cuisines, including Chinese and Nepalese dumplings, Korean BBQ and Thai. This year will also feature the LUNAR BAR from 4:30-9:30pm, Town Hall Lane. Open for one night only the Lunar Bar will have DJ Masta Tea spinning the latest and greatest Asian Pop for you to groove to while sipping a beer or sampling some dumplings. To celebrate International Women’s Day, Blacktown City Council is calling on the community to reflect on the impact women make to society and to nominate a woman whose achievements they admire for the 2014 Blacktown City Woman of the Year Award. Nominations should reflect the principles of International Women’s Day which: •Celebrate the achievements of local women in paid or unpaid work •Support women’s work in promoting equality, justice, peace and social development across the community •Support the full participation of women in political, economic and social life •Promote and encourage diversity •Promote gender equality and the empowerment of women. A panel of women comprising members of the community and local government representatives will consider nominations and select the Award winner.
