l l Rex Navarrete has per-

formed his brand of comedy
all across the USA touring numerous colleges, universities
and community events. He has
become a household name in
Filipino American homes.
Navarrete first came to
prominence in the late 1990’s
through the use of characters,
many of whom were struggling underdogs. His portrayals, which ranged from his ESL
teacher Mrs. Scott to his Uncle Boy and to Maritess the domestic worker, gave him the
voice to air his thoughts on issues.
Navarrete gathers all of his
material from what he calls
“real Rex moments,” reality and

shared life experiences.
He holds the distinction of
becoming the most celebrated
stand-up comic to perform to
multiple sold-out shows in Manila, Hong Kong and Singapore
since 2002. He regularly returns
to Manila, which has become
fertile ground for his style of
stand-up, inspiring the growth
of an emerging local stand-up
comedy scene. Australian fans
eagerly await his arrival.

at the Burwood RSL on February 16. He will also do shows in
Melbourne on February 15 and

One Voice School of Singing
created a You Tube video asking
Oprah to bring Charice to Australia during their Australian
Tour. It was a competition entry
for the Oprah show but they did
not win (with Oprah choosing
Jay-z to meet under privileged
schoolboys in Granville).
But that video went viral with
no less than Lea Salonga tweeting the video reaching over
27,000 views from Charice fans
around the world.
Now the stage is set for young
Filipino-Australian singers to finally meet their idol and even
sing on her show.

“The kids have grown up
being inspired by her story and
now she is giving back and helping the kids fulfill their dreams.
It just goes to show that dreams
can come true if you show initiative and have patience,” said One
Voice vocal coach Tina Bangel.
“It will also be an amazing
experience and an honour to
sing with such an amazing International star,” she said.

Seven One Voice students
along with Tina had just come
back from the USA. The talented singers were part of the Glee
Club Australia talent development project that toured California and performed in Disyeland, Universal Studios, California Park and the Christmas
Hollywood Parade.
The Australian Tour of
Charice brings her to shows in
Melbourne on April 5, Perth on
April 6, Sydney on April 12 and
Perth on April 13.
