IN one of his talks in Sydney during his visit to Australia, the Cardinal posed the question on why some Filipinos tend to forget their faith once they have successfully migrated to a richer country. The cardinal said that many families pray a lot, go through novenas, “pray for their visas to Australia to be granted” but once they are settled in Australia “they spend more time in an RSL casino.” The charismatic cardinal was in a brief visit to Australia where he spoke in a series of forum on Catholic families and the call to holiness. He was also conferred with an honourary doctorate by the Aus- tralian Catholic University in Melbourne. In Sydney, Filipino-Australians trooped to the forum and to the Mass presided by Cardinal Tagle at the St. Mary’s Cathedral and at the Our Lady of Fatima Parish in Kingsgrove. Many Pinoys were happy to see Cardinal Tagle – often dubbed by the media as the ‘Smiling Cardinal’ – and not a few managed to take selfies with him. “I’m so happy to see Cardinal Tagle, he is a very refreshing figure in the Philippines with his simplicity and friendly manner,” said one excited Pinay from Continued on page 03 Blacktown.
