‘A Nation Aborted’
- author launches second edition
DISTINGUISHED Filipino educator Dr. Floro Quibuyen recently launched the second edition of his book on Philippine history at The Hub in Mt Druitt. The book – “A Nation Aborted: Rizal, American Hegemony and Philippine Nationalism” – has been published by the Ateneo de Manila University Press and since its ?rst edition in 1999 was rated by academicians as “one of the most provocative books on Philippine historiography”. The occassion also marked the launching of Lakambini, a dynamic theater group and writers’ collective, which will be staging an avant-garde play in 2014 portraying Philippine history and the formation of the Filipino nation from a new perspective. Lakambini’s play-in-progress is based on Quibuyen’s ‘A Nation Aborted.’ At the launch Dr. Quibuyen delivered a lecture on the ‘De?ning moments in the foundation and deformation of the Filipino nation, years 1887 to 1897.” A Nation Aborted has received positive reviews from the academic world. Regarding it as “a major contribution to the intellectual biography of Rizal”, Dr. John N. Schumacher, S.J., Ateneo de Manila University’s leading historian on Rizal and the Philippine nationalist movement said the book “is important for anyone concerned with the thought of the nationalist movement leading to the Revolution of 1896, and its modi?cation as the result of H[Y\?X?[???]Y\?[????\][???'H ??? ?\?[?H?[??
