S FILIPINO PRESENCE IN AUSTRALIA. September 2013 | Vol. 3 No. 12 | www.kalatas.com.au | 21 JIM PAREDES LIVE IN SYDNEY JIM PAREDES IT HAS been quite a few years since my family moved to Sydney. I have done quite a few things since. I have been a guitar teacher to a few students; a voice teacher, too. I have also done photography workshops which I really love to do. I have also ran my ‘Tapping the Creative Universe’ ?ve times in Australia out of the 70-plus times I’ve done it everywhere else. Then, there’s also the songwriting and performance workshops I have had the joy of doing. But the one thing I love to do which I have not done since moving to Australia is a solo concert. Since APO ended three years ago, I have become a solo performer and recording artist. In truth, I am enjoying it as much as I enjoyed doing APO. The performing bug bit me decades ago and it seems there is no antidote for it. I still love to do it after so many years. I feel ever grateful to be given the chance each time I am asked to perform. This October 4 will be no exception. I plan to make it a really special one for many rea- THE MAN AND HIS MUSIC Let’s have a great night! sons. One, I ALWAYS make every show special. This should not be an exception. Two, this is Sydney and I have established new roots here and I want to pay back all the goodness I have experienced here and share my music with new friends and the community. Three, I think that 44 years of doing shows has taught me a few tricks to make audiences happy and I am excited to be entertaining you with a different kind of show. What can you expect? Well, A LOT. I have written some of the big hits that probably de?ned a lot of the feelings and you had in the past. They may have become the soundtrack of your love lives, the theme songs of the many passages you went through in life. I will bring you back to those sweet, nostalgic times that helped inspire and console, thrilled and de?ned you as a person. You will smile, maybe tear up a bit, and de?nitely sing along. I will sing all of them with you. And I also have my new songs to share. I have not stopped writing at all. I have two solo albums and am making a third one right now. I am sure you will like the few songs I will sing from these. I will also break my ‘Strictly OPM’ rule and sing some songs written by non-Filipinos. No limitations. THIS is exciting for me. Lastly, I will be guesting some amazing performers from the Filipino community I have had the pleasure of listening to and watching in the past. I will be performing with some of them. I will also be bringing Ernie Baladjay, APO’s long time musical director and a dear friend who will accompany me on piano. This should all make for a great night. To me, a performer must do two things: surprise, and delight. Even if I have written down here what you can expect, I have more things up my sleeve to show you on concert night. I am wholeheartedly inviting you to an evening you will not forget. ‘Jim Paredes Live in Sydney: The Man and his Music’ will be at the Burwood RSL Entertainment Dome. Let’s have a great night!
