Fundraiser concert for PACF A CONCERT to raise funds for the Philippine Australian Community Foundation will be held on September 22 at the Diamond Showroom, Blacktown Workers Club. The concert dubbed ‘Jasmine in Concert’ features 21-year-old Jasmine Faye Biala. Jasmine is a rising talent who had performed in many community shows and alongside known talents such as Jed Madela, Lani Misalucha, Pops Fernandez and Vina Morales. The concert in September will be her biggest gig yet. This concert is also unique in that the lead performer, the back-up vocals and the band are all graduates of the Australian Institute of Music in Sydney. Jasmine – Jaz or Jazzy to family and friends – started singing lessons at age 7 right through to high school where she turned to playing drums for two years. She went back to singing and went on to study Bachelor of Music majoring in Contemporary Performance at the Australian Institute of Music. The Australian Institute for Performing Arts (AIPA) created the program as an opportunity for talented singers and dancers to work with the best vocal coaches, composers, musical directors and choreographers. The group last month completed a week-long Glee Bootcamp with noted dance instructor Alyson Stoner (from ‘Step Up’ and ‘Camp Rock’ among others) The US tour will run for three weeks during which the cast will spend time in workshops and rehearse for a number of shows. They will be performing at Universal Studios, Hollywood Boulevard, Disneyland, Knott’s Berry Farm and Balboa Park, California. The children will be accompanied by Tina and their parents. To help raise funds for the group’s expenses, a concert will be held on November 3 at Bowman Hall.
