Calvert stands out at a pre-season tournament
Horn-Pacquiao rematch locked in for Brisbane

GERMANY-BASED handballer Bevan Calvert , who re-signed with Mecklenburger Schwerin professional handball club for another season , stood out as the ‘ Top Scorer ’ and ‘ Player of the Tournament ’ at the recent precompetition season tournament , Matthäi Cup .
" Being top scorer is special ,” Calvert said after the final . “ But it ' s more a recognition of the team playing well in the tournament ,"
It was not the first time Calvert had finished top scorer of a tournament . In 2015 , he sop-scored at the 13th Peenetal Cup .
At the time , he was also quoted as saying : " The team definitely filled the role of tournament favourite and earned first place .

“ And once again , only because my team set up some great plays and earned many seven-metre penalties that I was top scorer .".
The coming 2017-2018 competition season will be his fourth with Schwerin .
On Calvert ’ s first month with the team , club fans voted him Player of the Month ; and at the close of the 2015 competition season fans picked him as the Player of the Season .
Although there have been other opportunities available to him , Calvert said he had chosen to stick with Schwerin .
“ I ’ m happy to stay because of friends and the fans ,” he said . •
BOXER Manny Pacquiao will return to Brisbane this year for a Battle of Brisbane rematch with world welterweight title-holder Jeff Horn .
" Now this has been talked about for some time , negotiations have been happening ," Lord Mayor Graham Quirk confirmed recently .
" I have had a meeting earlier which has confirmed that Manny Pacquiao will definitely be in Brisbane this year for a rematch with Jeff Horn .”
Cr Quirk said the opportunity for the rematch rested with the Filipino boxer , who lost their first fight in July at Lang Park .
The announcement followed a meeting between Queensland Premier Annastasia Palaszczuk , Tourism Minister Kate Jones , promoter Dean Lonergan of Duco events , Top Rank Inc , and Horn .
He said the details around a renewed contract were still being worked through .
" We are in a position now where Brisbane Marketing will be re-engaged to get involved in the negotiation process ," he said .
" But the good news is that Manny Pacquiao will definitely be here to fight Jeff Horn this year ."
The first Battle of Brisbane drew a crowd of 51,072 at Suncorp Stadium and attracted an average of 3.1 million viewers , becoming ESPN ' s highest-rated boxing telecast since 1995 . •

Grand score nets Masters trophy for Neil Narvais
A NET 65 off a handicap 9.5 earned Neil Narvais the inaugural Grand Master ’ s Charity Golf Cup on Saturday , July 29 , 2017 .
The competition , played under the System 36 scoring system at Fairfield Golf Course , was organised by Lodge Blacktown- Kildare 393 .
As the overall champion , St Helens Park resident Narvais took home a tall trophy , a $ 100 cash prize and the privilege to engrave his name on the perpetual trophy .
“ Am happy with the win ,” he said . “ I was just trying to beat my personal score at Fairfield Golf Course , and winning was a bonus , especially with one-stroke lead .”
Grade winners with gross scores were : Chris Blakeley ( 64 ) for A ; Raul Amor ( 89 ) for B and Ruel Tabar ( 98 ) for C . They received

trophies and $ 50 cash prize each .
Grade runners-up , including first and second were : Bert Bugayong ( R / U ); Danny Martinez ( 1st R / U ) and Gerry Estera ( 2nd R / U ) for Grade A ; Manny Maniago ( R / U ); Phil Pardo ( 1st R / U ) and Tim delos Reyes ( 2nd R / U ) for Grade B and Victor Edilloran ( R / U ), Clarins Banares ( 1st R / U ) and Robert Iligan ( 2nd R / U ) for Grade C . These grade runnersup received trophies .
Novelty prizes were awarded for all 18 holes : nearest the pin ( par 3 ), best drive and pitch ( par 4 ) and longest drive ( par 5 ).
Winners received a sleeve of golf balls each from sponsors of Lodge Blacktown- Kildare 393 and other lodges .

After the tournament , all were treated to a sumptuous barbecue lunch , courtesy of the volunteers of Lodge Blacktown-Kildare 393 and their families .
A presentation of awards followed lunch with James Melville as presenter assisted by
Troy Menez Gara .
Tee-Riffic Berdies – Puro Golf Ltd headed by Toto Quintana supported the event and took charge in collating and summarising the score cards .
