Ang Kalatas Ozing Pinoy iClick Mo Photo Contest | Seite 3

They clicked, they shared Their stories in photos Images. We have lots of them. Happy faces, precious episodes, snapshots on dates and places to remember, and frames that captured that moment in a day on the life of the Filipino-Australians. Kalatas Media together with Western Union and Lowe Profero started the ‘Ozing Pinoy – i-Click Mo Amateur Photo contest’ in June 2015 with the hope of linking the communities, families and friends together through the colourful pictures that define us as a distinct culture within the Australian milieu. Soon enough, our readers began sending their photos. We were expecting a few, probably dozens, but by the end of the year (when the contest wrapped up in December), we received over 200 photographs, each one with a unique story, with a special tale to tell. It was a contest that involved fun and generated excitement for many of our readers. Most Pinoys after all love taking pictures and thanks to the available gadgetry and social media platforms, taking pictures and sharing stories have become a simple ‘click-and-share’ affair. Photography appeals to all ages and doing it has never been so easy even for the amateurs. Still, there are good photos that stand out from the rest. Thanks to Western Union, the top remittance company that provided the prizes, the winners were given cash that they shared to their loved ones back home. More importantly, the contest provided us a glimpse on the growing FilAussie community. The beautiful pictures sent by our readers practically weave a narrative about Pinoy assimilation, integration, and immersion in Australia. The pages in this special supplement of Ang Kalatas January 2016 issue show the photos that won in the monthly contests, the Grand Finals winners, and the photos that invited the ‘Most Likes’ via the Ang Kalatas page in Facebook. The pages also show the images that, despite not winning prizes, deserve appreciation for their own value – in a sense artistic, inviting, compelling, or simply beautiful to look at. They tell the Pinoy’s story in Oz. OzingPinoy talaga! [Kalatas Media] OUR COVER CO R Our Cover ‘Ang Mga Tsinelas’ Our cover is a non-entry photo solicited from Netherlen ‘Nedz’ Saletrero, a Filipino currently studying at the University of Sydney. It symbolises the journey of the Pinoy migrant to a country that adopted many of our Kababayans. In the photo are Nedz’s schoolmates from the university relaxing at the beach in Meriumbula at the Far South Coast or the ‘Sapphire Coast’ in southern NSW. A meteorologist from PAGASA, Nedz is from Bohol. She took this picture with her mobile phone – “I just love taking pictures,” says Nedz.
