The Filipino community in Australia is passionate about maintaining its
unique cultural identity, language and tradition, alongside a common
commitment to Australia and the state of New South Wales. I commend
everyone who made tonight’s concert a reality.’
– NSW PREMIER GLADYS BEREJIKLIAN
in a video message to the ASAP Live in Sydney’ audience.
THOUSANDS packed Sydney's International Convention Centre to the rooftops at Darling
Harbour on Monday, October 29, 2018, for Grand Kapamilya Party Down Under.
ASAP Live business unit head Joyce Liquicia and her team produced back-to-back
concerts in one show that integrated the cultural universe of the Philippines to Australia's.
The first concert opened with the Walangari Karintawarra and Diramu Aboriginal dances
and didgeridoo music then segued over to Bamboo and Daniel Padilla, with the G-Force
dancers, singing, Hoy, Pinoy Ako (Hey, I’m Filipino) from Bamboo’s classic hit, NoyPi.
The production was beamed across the world as ASAP Live in Sydney, in the same
way that ASAP Live was in Singapore, Dubai, Los Angeles, London, New York, Toronto
and Honolulu – a creative and artistic expression and manifestation of a strong Filipino
identity and transnational cultural unity.
It was about Filipinos without borders, gathering to celebrate a common place of origin
or roots while celebrating where they presently are, wrote Nerissa Fernandez. And in
a world-class spectacle of song, dance, talk and multimedia, performers and audience
happily tell themselves about themselves.
: More than 30 top entertainers and officials of ABS-CBN came to take part in the
extravaganza. They were welcome by local local officials, including NSW Premier Gladys
Berejiklian with a video message.
