SPORTS: TAEKWONDO Brothers in arms THREE brothers are full-on into taekwondo at the Martial Arts Spirit Health and Fitness Academy with gyms in Prestons and Mount Annan, NSW. Travis, Terrence and their younger brother Tristan Fernandez own both gyms. Tristan won a gold medal for Australia at the Malaysian Taekwondo G1 Open championships in March 2018. Terrence was Australian taekwondo champion eight times, national taekwondo champion 10 times, a Commonwealth champion gold medallist in 2006, and a junior national coach “Determined to overcome issues of bullying, I first analysed my inner self and carefully defeated insecurity after martial arts training from my Korean mentors,” Terrence said. n TRISTAN FERNANDEZ, right in blue, on his way to a gold medal at the Malaysian Taekwondo Open championships. GOLF ROUNDS Knights golf Cup to Milford SYDNEY Eagle Social Golf Club’s Justin Milford won the 20th Knights Cup golf tournament at Fox Hills Golf Club on Easter Monday, April 2, 2018. Milford scored 46 stableford points using his social handicap of 19. He was awarded a trophy and cash prize of $250. His name will also be engraved in the perpetual trophy as the 2018 champion. “Am so lucky, and I like the course,” Milford said. “I just hit the ball and everything went well. I guessed it’s my lucky.” Individual grade winners with their scores and handicaps used were: James Malu for A (43/12), Jim Gonzales for B (43/20) Jerome Gaerlan for C (39/26). These grade winners received trophies and cash prize of $150 each. Individual grade runners-up with their scores and handicaps used were: Richard Espiritu for A (41/16), Gerry Estera for B (42/22) and Russel Gaerlan for C (38/28). These runners-up winners received trophies and cash prize of $100 each. Lady winner was Vangie Leones from Sydney Metro Social Golf Club with her score of 33 points. She was awarded a trophy. Novelty winners who received trophy each with their grades and hole numbers were: Gus Gonzales (B, drive and pitch on 1), Cedric Bartolome (drive and pitch on 2), Oscar Clemente (NTP on 3), Oni Miranda (C, longest drive on 4), Rey Garcia (A, NTP on 5), Jack Pornladayong (C, drive and pitch on 6), Alex Cruz (C, drive and pitch on 7), Sale Hunt (B, drive and pitch on 8), Rhoel del Rosario (A, drive and pitch on 9), Daven Naidu (B, drive and pitch on 10), Nick Zarate (B, NTP on 11), Rudyanto Chong (B, drive and pitch on 13), Kate Andres (NTP on 15), Ezy Sioco (C, NTP on 17) and Art Piyasirikul (A, longest drive on 18). No winners for holes 14 and 16. There were 97 golfers (with five ladies) coming from different Filipino Social golf clubs and their friends who supported this tournament which is now on its 20th year. Groups from Thai Golf Association and Indonesia Golf Association were in attendance. NEW HOPE INVITATIONAL CUP THE inaugural New Hope Invitational Cup held on March 31, 2018 at Fairfield Golf Course was won by Ramil Neri as over-all champion. By RIC DE VERA Neri was awarded a trophy plus $200 and the privilege of having his name engraved in the perpetual shield. Division winners were Michael Sengul (A Div), Jorge Resus (B Div) and Jaime Buhagiar (C Div). These winners were awarded with individual trophies plus $100. Division runners-up were Nelson Catig (Div A), Ome Gaerlan (Div B) and Miguel Soria (Div C). These runners-up winners were awarded individual trophies plus $50. Novelty prizes were awarded for nearest- the-pin, longest drive and best drive and pitch on all 18 holes with sleeve of golf balls. Sponsors of the event were New Hope Baptist Church and friends (Care of Pastor Sammy C. Ramos), Bright Financial Services &and Exercise 101.
