A test to our maturity
AT presstime , there was no official confirmation on the attendance of Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte at the Australian ASEAN Special Summit in Sydney on March 16-18 , 2018 .
Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull had earlier invited all ASEAN Heads of State , including President Duterte , to the Summit .
In a letter from Eduardo Alcordo to some members of the Filipino community in Sydney , the Australia Philippines Business Council ( APBC ) and the Filipino community in Australia consequently invited President Duterte to a reception-dinner at 6:30pm on Friday , March 16 , at the Hilton Hotel Sydney , on 488 George Street , Sydney .
Booking details , however , were to be available the following week , pending confirmation of details regarding President Duterte ’ s visit .
Meantime , some organised Filipino community groups in Sydney held a rally in front the Philippine Consulate on Saturday , February 24 , 2018 to demonstrate

Should President Dutere attend the Summit in Sydney , expect an already divided Filipino community to find another axe to grind .
We call on opposing sides to let cooler and more civilised heads lead the debate and further public demonstrations during the Summit .
It wouldn ’ t help either side to speak or act irresponsibly .
This would be a test of the Filipino-Australian community ’ s maturity to the rest of the world who will be watching . •
