02 WHAT’S ON THE MESSAGE. BRINGING INTO FOCUS FILIPINO PRESENCE IN AUSTRALIA www.kalatas.com.au | Volume 6 Number 6 | MARCH 2016 Tribute to Filipino Film-Forum to observe Women’s Day community builders ‘ANG KABABAIHAN NG MALOLOS’ In celebration of International Women’s Day (March 8) and to launch the newly registered community organisation Research Institute for Sustainable Alternatives (RISAL), the critically acclaimed historical-dramamusical film ANG KABABAIHAN NG MALOLOS will be shown on March 12 at ‘The Hub’, Mt Druitt Library. The film is based on Philippine National Hero Jose Rizal’s famous letter to the heroic young women of Malolos (Mga Kababayang Dalaga ng Malolos) who joined the struggle for independence. The film showing will be followed by an open forum—to be conducted by Dr. Floro Quibuyen and Mr. Danny Peralta--to discuss the critical historical, social and political issues raised by the film and to reflect on the 2016 theme for International Women’s Day “Planet 50-50 by 2030: Step It Up for Gender Equality”. The film-forum celebrates acts of courage by ordinary women who played progressive roles in the history of their countries. In particular, it is a commemoration of the young Filipinas who played an invaluable role in the formation of the Filipino nation. Invitation is extended to all your members and families—especially teenaged daughters--to join us in watching ANG KABABAIHAN NG MALOLOS. This film-forum is supported by our Philippine Consulate in collaboration with the Tagalog Association of Australia, the Order of the Knights of Rizal-Sydney, and Migrante Australia. Program starts at 5:30pm, film showing at 6pm. This is a free admission event but donations are welcome.
