BRINGING INTO FOCUS FILIPINO PRESENCE IN AUSTRALIA www.kalatas.com.au | Volume 6 Number 10 | JULY 2016 WHAT’S ON Winter fun at Parramatta Winterlight PRINCE Alfred Square will be transformed into a magical winter dreamland featuring Sydney’s largest open-air ice rink, a dedicated kids’ rink, an ice slide and a giant ferris wheel for the annual Parramatta Winterlight festival. The 17-day event runs during the school holidays from 1-17 July and will showcase exclusive offerings that are unique to Parramatta. “Parramatta Winterlight, now in its fifth year, is set to be the biggest winter festival ever held in Parramatta. An expanded offering will see festivities occupy the entire Square to create the ultimate destination for families, workers and visitors to enjoy the winter holidays,” City of Parramatta Administrator Amanda Chadwick said. The exclusive new attractions include a 22-metre high illuminated ferris wheel (Dream Wheel), a 20-metre long elevated ice slide and, in addition to the Smooth FM Ice Rink, a second, smaller rink dedicated for young children. Also new to the event are theme night Thursdays - Onesie Night on 7 July and Date Night on 15 July. Event goers will be able to relax in the alpine food village and taste a range of winter fare, including mulled wine and comforting food from La Toosh, EatArtTruck, Parramatta favourite Adora Handmade Chocolates, Dutch Poffertjes and more. ‘Dapat ba o hindi dapat turuan ang ating mga anak ng Wikang Pilipino?’ (Should we or should we not teach the Filipino language to our children?)
